Books to Foster Inclusivity: A Guide for Parents of Trans Children

by Bailey Bouwman

As parents, we want our children to feel loved and accepted for who they are. However, for trans and gender non-conforming children, this can be a particularly challenging journey. Unfortunately, trans youth are more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts than their cisgender peers.

The Canadian Trans Youth Health Survey found that 35% of trans youth in Canada had experienced physical violence due to their gender identity, and 70% had experienced verbal harassment.

At Nest & Sprout, we are committed to providing resources that help parents create a safe and inclusive environment for their trans and gender non-conforming children. We believe that every child deserves to feel loved and accepted, no matter who they are or who they will become.

With this in mind, we've curated a list of kids books currently available at Nest & Sprout that can help parents and children navigate issues related to gender identity and expression. These books teach children about the importance of being true to oneself, accepting others, and creating a world that celebrates diversity and inclusivity.
