Hey parents! If you're looking for the best shoes for your child's growing feet, you've come to the right place.

Here's our guide to choosing the best shoes for your child:

  1. Measure your child's feet regularly: Kids' feet grow fast, so it's important to measure them regularly. Check out this guide from Kids Health for tips on how to measure your child's feet accurately.

If you're doing this at home, many brands recommend tracing your kids feet out when standing on the ground. You can then measure the foot trace to the shoe guides. Sometimes I children's feet are thick or wide, you may want to consider other elements of the shoe.

Some shoe brands offer printable templates that you can trace feet over to best gage the size.

  2. Look for shoes that are flexible: Kids' feet are still developing, so they need shoes that allow for natural movement. Look for shoes that are flexible and not too stiff.

Generally, most children's shoes are built this way to support their foot. We love Jan & Jul shoes because they really focus on this wide toe box for the barefoot shoe experience that offers softness for developing feet.

  3. Choose shoes with a supportive sole: A good sole will help your child maintain proper foot alignment and provide protection. Check out this article from the American Podiatric Medical Association for more information on what to look for in a supportive sole.

  4. Pay attention to the shoe material: You want shoes that are breathable and made from high-quality materials. Leather and canvas are great options. Check out this article from HealthyChildren.org for more information on shoe materials.

At the end of the day, as a new parent this wasn't always a concern for me as much as finding a shoe that fit. I do have one child who complains her feet get too hot in shoes - so we are constantly looking for highly breathable shoes like boots made with wool, or a knit shoe with ventalation.

  5. Check the fit: Make sure the shoes fit well and don't slip off, but aren't too tight either. Here's a helpful guide from Verywell Family on how to check the fit of your child's shoes.

If you have the luxury of visiting us in Pine Centre Mall, definitely do and bring your child to try on shoes and see how the ankle fits, how the shoe feels when the child walks - these are all great things to consider when we pick out the right shoe.

  6. Consider your child's activities: Depending on what your child is doing, they may need different types of shoes. For example, if they're just learning to walk, they'll need shoes with a soft, flexible sole. If they're more active, they may need shoes with more support and cushioning.

and sometimes you just need a shoe so grandma doesn't get mad.

By following these tips and doing a little research, you can help ensure that your child's feet develop properly and that they're comfortable in their shoes. Happy shoe shopping!
